I’ll Miss You, Landmarc
In December I sent the following letter to the Murphys, the husband and wife owners of my favorite local restaurant Landmarc, via postal mail. I have yet to hear back.Ricky Van Veen

Dear Marc and Pamela,
Hello from a neighbor. I moved to Tribeca in July of 2004, and live on Leonard Street between Church and Broadway.
I’ve been a longtime fan of your restaurant. And I’m not just saying that. This statement has actually been documented and fact-checked by The New Yorker magazine. To quote their January 2005 profile of my company and my business partner buddies, “The friends do go to nice restaurants; one of their new favorites is Landmarc, on West Broadway, which they think is a good place for steak frites, so long as you don’t mind being carded.”
We’ve grown older over the years and don’t get carded anymore (I’m now 26), but our patronage of your restaurant has been persistent. I’d say I’ve eaten at Landmarc 3-4 times per month for as long as I’ve lived here. It’s one of my top two restaurants in the city – the other is Lure, but that’s comparing apples and oranges. Landmarc has not only a dependably cozy vibe and friendly service, but a versatile menu that can fit anyone’s food mood. My girlfriend will often text me around 5pm on a weekday with “Chicken Burger?” and I’ll know she wants to go to Landmarc that night.
Anyway, the reason I’m writing you this letter is because I’m soon moving out of Tribeca to the West Village. And once I do I’ll be able to visit your restaurant less frequently, but I’d still like to come as often as possible. And if I was able to make reservations, that would make visiting a lot easier. I’m not 100% certain there’s a special list for people to make reservations, but I’m guessing there is because I’ve never seen Michael Imperioli waiting in the vestibule with the strollers for a table. So… can I get on that list?
In hopes that it will influence your decision positively, I am enclosing a recently taken photo of my girlfriend and me with a chimpanzee in a Santa suit.
Best,
Ricky Van Veen
